HSUS Loses Charity Endorsements
The Humane Society of the United States is facing pushback from several charity oversight groups.
The Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance has removed it’s accreditation of the animal charity this week, reports the Center for Consumer Freedom. BBB Wise Giving has not released a statement about the change.
This comes after Charity Navigator downgraded HSUS’s rating from four stars to two (four-star scale), with a “1” for finances. The site lists 74% of HSUS’s budget is spent on programs, of which 22.9% is fundraising.
In February, Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) also reviewed HSUS’s status since the scandal, choosing to rescind their 2016 Standout recommendation of group’s Farm Animal Protection Campaign. ACE says “ethical leadership and a healthy work environment critical components of an effective charity.”
